IBM announced last week an initiative to 'enlist some of the company’s leading scientists and technologists to help medical practitioners and insurance companies provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients.' This will cover their areas of expertise (such as cloud computing and systems integration) with 'emerging scientific areas' (nanomedicine) to drive towards 'evidence-based care' for practitioners and insurance companies--the medical home model. However the funding isn't much for three years and the objective seems vague. A redirection and a bundling of current activities? Maybe it's the NYC heat, but it's hard for this editor [Donna] to hack through the jungle of platitudes and jargon...what is Big Blue advancing, and what's it all about, Alfie?
