Blue Tree Services launches people tracking service (UK)

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

This looks similar to the Loc8me story posted here 31 August, the Yorkshire Safe-T story from 28 January and even the Irish TopLocate story from 30 January. What’s not explained is how these services track people within, say, shopping centres and other such indoor locations where GPS doesn’t work. If you know, please post a comment below. Thanks.

Winn-Dixie Supermarkets carrying Guardian Alert 911 Personal Emergency Response System

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Winn-Dixie operates more than 400 supermarkets in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. (States, as it happens, where there are high proportions of older people.) Interestingly, because the alarm is to the 911 emergency operator, the system has a one-off purchase cost and no monthly charges. Despite its limitations, it’s good to see a telecare system getting into the shopping mall.
