mediagrids appointment

mediagrids has appointed Rob Bijkerk to its board of directors. Netherlands-based Bijkerk, joined mediagrids in 2006 as VP of European Operations. He will continue to promote the company’s flagship product, broadcare, the broadband videoconferencing technology that enables “intelligent and discreet monitoring of individuals in their own environments”.

Toumaz Technology joins Continua Health Alliance

Owing to the participation of all the big-name players, the Continua Health Alliance has become the de facto key industry body aimed at “promoting interoperability across emerging technology-based health and wellness solutions”. Abingdon (Oxfordshire, UK) based Toumaz Technology Limited is “a developer of advanced RF, analogue and mixed signal semiconductors. The focus of the business is low power devices based on the company’s proprietary AMxT (Advanced Mixed Signal) technology which addresses the needs of lower power consumption for mobile and wirelessly connected systems”.

Interesting new product from the Netherlands that uses video with computer monitoring for activity monitoring. Likely to appeal to the care homes market, the developers are looking for UK distributors. Check out the product at Secumatic’s WeSpot website.

Findings of survey into local responses to the PTG published

The website AT Dementia (see 26 January) is now carrying the report of the survey Local responses to the preventive technology grant: findings from a two stage survey of local stakeholders undertaken last year by John Woolham, Grant Gibson and Pam Clarke. “The survey found that whilst in many areas local agencies were responding creatively and enthusiastically, other respondents reported on a range of difficulties in creating the local conditions that might allow telecare to be widely used. A total lack of knowledge and experience of using telecare in some areas created particular difficulties.” Download from the AT Dementia site.
