Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

The London Telecare Group (of councils) has commissioned the poster below from the JCA Design agency. Thanks to generous support from the Adshel and ClearChannel agencies which manage advertising in London’s bus shelters, 409 posters are currently getting the message out to the general public. Lewisham Linkline will initially be handling all enquiries on behalf of the other councils.

Verify & Locate (UK)

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

The attention of lone workers, care home managers and end users is being drawn to the advantages of the GSM and GPS person location systems from UK-based company Verify & Locate. Instead of the user being restricted to home he or she can go where they like, “safe in the knowledge that their whereabouts could be located by their loved ones or professionals in a central control centre.”

Verify & Locate makes full use of current web technologies on its site to get its message across. For examples, (see the demos here) and take a look at the ‘cool’ way it presents its product brochure.

It’s come a long way since its launch, reported in Telecare Aware two years ago.

RemoteNurse in WSD programme featured in UK national daily paper

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

The Home Telehealth Ltd press release first featured on Telecare Aware made it into The Sun, one of the big UK national newspapers last week. Other than a couple of small inaccuracies (the RemoteNurse isn’t included in Newham and Kent’s plans and it doesn’t send emails) it’s a good treatment of the story, linking it to the use of the RemoteNurse in Northern Ireland (also previously reported in Telecare Aware). Only The Sun could come up with that headline, though!

The Home Telehealth Ltd press release was the first to make use of Telecare Aware’s Media Alert Mailing Service.

Interoperability: the next big thing for smart homes

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Apart from the intrinsic interest of the content, this article clearly raises a terminology issue for people who refer to telecare-enabled accommodation as a ’smart home’. (See also this Telecare Soapbox item.)

Texas Telehealth Cost Benefit Study

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

The AT&T Center for Telehealth Research and Policy at the University of Texas and the Centre for Information Technology & Leadership (CITL) has released a study estimating the cost-benefit of telehealth to the US health system. ‘The savings estimates assume a combination of ’store-and-forward’ technologies that involve transmission and interpretation of medical data with ‘real-time video’ consultations involving a patient and one or more physicians.’ Download the report from this Telehealth Canada item.
